With so many young people having social media profiles, discussions around the importance of privacy settings and not accepting friend requests from strangers were highlighted.

Gaming was also raised as a potential route for young people to be targeted by groomers and case studies were used throughout the interactive session to show our students how to keep safe online.

Spiritual, moral, social and cultural lead Miss Garnett said: “The students were really engaged with all the sessions and it was shocking to find out just how many young people have no privacy settings on their social media accounts and accept friend requests from people they do not know. I hope they are now more aware of the dangers and what they can do to reduce the risks so they can still use the internet, but safely.”
