Oracy is a vital part of our curriculum. Students are encouraged to value their voices and be active listeners.

ACTIVE SPEAKING:

Staff model academic language and students are supported and encouraged to speak within the classroom as experts.

Providing opportunities to speak and share ideas and to listen to others is a vital part of learning and in building student academic resilience.

Students take part in Ignite Speeches each Term.

They write and perform their speeches in front of their year group in assemblies based on key ideas or questions from the books they have read on the Big Read and they count towards graduating from the BPS University.

ACTIVE LISTENING:

Students also take part in Our World, Our Thought lessons that are designed purposefully to engage students in key topical issues and get them to think and question the world they live in. A key part of these lessons is about talking in groups and sharing ideas before presenting their ideas verbally.
