For the second year running, a Birkenhead Park School student has made it to the national finals of the Wicked Young Writer Awards. Last time around it was Year 8 student Abi’s writing that made the shortlist, this year it's Phoebe’s entry that has impressed the judges – a Year 8 student again.

The competition provides a blank canvas opportunity for anybody aged between five and twenty-five to produce a piece of creative writing on a subject of their choosing. This can be a story, play or poem so long as it fits within 750 words.

Phoebe and Abi’s submissions are two immensely creative pieces befitting of much senior authors. This recognition is testament to two very able writers that are developing impressively in school, and it’s a very proud achievement for our English faculty.

There have been over 4,000 entries to this year’s competition from across the UK and Phoebe has been shortlisted into the top 20 for her story ‘Imperfection’. It’s a phenomenal achievement and something that we’re all immensely proud of - her story itself being a great representation of the school’s value of thoughtfulness. Phoebe can now look forward to the awards ceremony on Thursday 21st June, held at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in London where she’ll be in the company of best-selling author of the How to Train Your Dragon series, Cressida Cowell.

Good Luck Phoebe!
